Diego

Dear Baby Eva,

In today’s birthday series I will introduce you to your uncle and my youngest brother, Diego.  Diego was born on November 2, 1994 (Dia de los Muertos) in Brownsville, TX.  I was only 7 but I remember when he was born quite well.  I remember going to the hospital and seeing his tiny body.  I loved him so much.  Even though I had my own bedroom I wanted to sleep in the same room as him.  Here is a picture of your beautiful grandmother when she was pregnant with him:

Diego grew up to be the cutest kid ever.  I used to boss him around a lot and make him play “school” with me.  Our mom bought activity and learning books and I used to teach him things like the alphabet and numbers.  We had a lot of fun.

Sometimes Diego’s birthday parties would fall on Halloween so he would have costume parties a lot. Here is a picture of him at one of his birthdays at Peter Piper Pizza:

Even though Diego is my little brother and he used to annoy me sometimes (you’ll know what I mean since you are going to be the oldest), we were (and are) pretty good friends.  As you can tell from his t-shirt, Diego was obsessed with dinosaurs when he was a kid.  He knew all the names of them and random facts about them.  It was so cute now that I think about it.

Now Diego loves baseball.  He eats, sleeps, and breaths it.  He’s really good at it too.  He made the Varsity team his freshman year and he always makes the local “All Stars” team.
Here is a picture of your grandmother, me, & Diego during one of my visits to Texas in 2008.  He’s going through this “Justin Bieber” haircut stage I always tease him about.

And here is a picture of the last time I saw Diego.  He and your grandmother came and visited me in Hawaii during their last week of Summer Vacation. I was about 10 weeks pregnant with you. :-) That picture was taken on a hike we went on to a waterfall called Manuawili Falls.
Baby Eva, I hope you have a little brother or two to boss around and tease like I did when I was a kid. ;-)  Haha. Diego is so excited to be an uncle.  He’ll be a cool one, as I know your other uncles will be too.  I can’t wait for you to meet him!

Love,
Mama
