(a continuation from Baby’s First Day)
Eva did surprising well her first night outside the womb. When she was hungry she would just wake up and sort of make these cute little grunting noises. The only time she ever really cries is when she’s getting her diaper changed. She hates that.
We were all ready to go in the morning when we woke up but despite our protests the hospital wouldn’t discharge us until 4 o’clock in the afternoon. So we spent a lot of time doing what we did the previous day… oogling our new baby and taking lots of pictures.
Finally, the moment we had been waiting for arrived. The nurses came in and did their final checkups and discharge paperwork. We dressed up little Eva in her going-home outfit and placed her in her carseat for the first time. She looked so tiny and precious in it. She didn’t seem to mind, either.
Here we are, all ready to go!
Eva slept soundly in the car seat the whole ride home. We stopped at Target to get some last minute baby stuff and made it to our house by about 5:30pm. We were greeted by our kitties, who had probably wondered where we had been. My mama was there too.
The kitties did really well. I thought Sofie (our jealous cat) was going to freak out a bit, but she is surprisingly calm about having a new little human in the house. Shortly after arriving home, Eva had her first poop explosion. It wasn’t too bad, really, but a tiny bit of it got on her going home outfit, which I was kind of bummed about. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing together on the couch. I still can’t get over how cute baby Eva looks when she’s all swaddled up.
