Eva’s First Halloween

The day before Halloween, my best friends Rikki, Jackie, and I took Eva to Boo at the Zoo. Eva wore a cute little tutu and shirt given to her by my other bestie’s (Ashley’s) Mom. I didn’t dress up, and instead opted for the ol Misfits shirt I wear all the time. The event was absolutely terrible. It was so packed that it was hard to move anywhere. The only animals we could see were the flamingos. It was basically just a trick-or-treating opportunity for children, with the cheapest, nastiest candy ever. Eva, however, loved watching all the children running around in costume. She was happy the entire time, so I guess it was worth it. I’m not sure I can handle it ever again, though.

On Halloween morning, I woke up at 4am and drove Eva to San Antonio. Eva’s grammy and great-grandmother made her the classic pebbles dress out of fabric and felt. I made her the bone headband with some felt and stuffing. The black bloomers were from another outfit. Eva and I spent Halloween with Ashley and another friend, Crystal. The three of us didn’t really do anything Halloween-y. I would feel too dumb taking a baby trick-or-treating without any other kids involved. Instead, we went to eat at Stone Werks, a nice restaurant where my brother Ryan works. It was a fun and memorable night. I can’t wait until Eva is old enough to appreciate Halloween so we can go all out.

  1. Love the pebbles costume! So cute! And can’t we all just stop for a moment to agree that babies in tutus are about the best thing ever??
My girl is two and a half, and this was her third halloween, but the first we really celebrated. Three times. Makig up for lost time. Hee. Funny how we had to move to Indonesia to celebrate Halloween properly.

  2. Hello, I just found your blog from a blog that sponsors a blog that I read. Complicated I know. But I’m glad I did. I am also a military wife/blogger. I’m looking forward to following along on your upcoming adventure.
