Eva: Ten Months

Evita Pilar,
Today you are 10 months old, and you’ve learned so much in the past month! Your biggest accomplishment is going from crawling to walking! Yup, you took your first steps at a couple of weeks past 9 months and you’ve been slowly progressing ever since. Learning to walk has been one of the cutest things I’ve ever witnessed. At first, when you’d try taking a step or two you’d close your little eyes tightly, anticipating a fall. When you finally did take a few steps without tumbling you’d get this semi-hidden smile on your face, like you were proud of yourself but didn’t want to boast. You haven’t really “taken off” walking yet, but you’re getting there. You can stay in the standing position for pretty much as long as you want, and can even bounce up and down a with your knees to dance.
My favorite thing you do now is dance. You started dancing on your bum a couple of months ago, but now you’ll stand up and dance. You almost can’t help yourself- every time you hear a rhythm you start bouncing your fluffy little booty up and down. If a song is on and someone is singing, you join in with the cutest little voice. It absolutely melts my heart.
You haven’t learned any more words from last month, and the only real word you seem to be saying these days is “cat.” However, your syllable vocabulary has improved and it definitely seems like you’re rattling off in a different language at times. Your favorite new syllable is “tata.”  You also like trying to make the “sss” sound. You still don’t have any teeth, so it’s probably a bit difficult for you, but I think you are cutting one as we speak! I feel something sharp poking out of your bottom gums, but you won’t let me look in there long enough to see what’s going on. You HATE when I mess with your face, whether it is to wipe your mouth after eating or put sunscreen on. You just won’t have any of it.
Another awesome thing you’ve started doing this month is clapping. When I sing, “If you’re happy and you know it…” you know exactly what to do. Well, sort of… you just clap repetitively instead of just twice after the appropriate verse. That’s okay, you’re learning!

Other things you have been doing lately, that I’ve forgotten to document in the appropriate week/month, is nodding your head, waving your hand, and playing catch. You love rolling a ball back and forth..

You are still sleeping in the same bed as us and I love it, although I think we’re going to transition you to your crib once it gets here. You are still waking up a couple of times a night, and I have a feeling I’m the one that wakes you with my tossing and turning sometimes. I’m going to miss cuddling with you as I fall asleep, though.

As you grow older and more independent, I just want to hold you as much as you’ll let me. I’m going to miss your baby kisses and your chunky little thighs, which seem to be getting leaner and leaner. I know I don’t have much time left with you as a baby, so I want to treasure it as much as possible. Thank you for all the love and joy you have brought me in the last ten months. Thank you for being my baby.
