Eva has recently discovered how awesome dirt is. She knew this about sand, but not about dirt. Now, when we go outside to play, she slowly gravitates to the bare patches of soil as if I won’t notice. If it’s close to bath time, I let her at it. She waves it around with her hands and feet. She throws it up into the air until her hair is saturated with it. It can be pretty difficult to get out, especially in a place where we’re not supposed to let tap water get into her mouth. But it’s worth watching her explore the properties and textures of something impossible to keep kids out of. Dirt.
