Throwback Thursday: Pipe Masters ’10

Some people dream of football season, some of baseball or basketball season. I dream of surfing season. The World Championship Tour (or WCT) just started this week, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. I used to wake up at all hours of the night to watch contests streaming online from the other side of the world. I’ve even watched the contests in class (as did many other students at the University of Hawaii). I’ve had the pleasure of watching a few of these contests live at Trestles in SoCal and Pipeline on North Shore. Pipe Masters is always the last contest of the season, and took place about 40 minutes from my house. It always coincided with my finals, which always upset me, but I’d still be at the beach with my books in hand. Well, not always. The first time I went to Pipe Masters wasn’t until 2010! I had an Evidence final the next day, but two girlfriends I grew up surfing with back in Texas were staying on the North Shore, so I just had to go.
