Eva: 13 Months

Evita Pilar,

It’s hard to believe it has been a month since your first birthday; still, so much has changed since then.

Here’s what you’ve been up to this month:
-blowing kisses
-bringing me the kanga when you want me to wear you
-pointing to your nose when I say “nariz” and eyes when I say “ojos”
-making a growling sound when I point to the osito in your book
-carrying a little purse around while putting things in and taking things out
-trying to brush your hair
-spinning around in circles
-still climbing everything
-still saying “Hi!” to everyone

You now have FOUR teeth, all on the bottom. I’m pretty sure you have another one coming in as we speak.

You no longer need a night feeding and you’re almost completely off the chupie (I now only give it to you when you can’t fall back asleep after waking for the bottle I don’t give you and I cave.) You now start off most nights in the crib next to our bed, but we let you back in our bed whenever you ask. We love it.

Your favorite meal is still chicken and mango (mixed together), but you also love spaghetti and samosas (African cuisine). You don’t mind spicy food and curry (which still surprises me, even though I did eat a lot of spicy Thai food while preggers).

You can say:
-cat (and gato and “cat keey”)
-hi!
-hot!
-dirty (sort of… we get the point)

Your favorite place is the beach and you never get tired of it. You run around in the sand, picking up shells and whatever else you can find. You love sitting at the waterline, where you can feel the ocean coming in and going out. You splash your little hands in the water and dip your little face in it.

You are more loving than ever. I love it when you run up to me and wrap your little arms around my legs and give me a besito while saying “baa.” You get the most serious look on your face right before you give me one, which erupts into the biggest, goofiest smiling face after. You bring me more joy than you could ever imagine. You’re my best friend, and I love you so much. Thank you for being my baby.

Love,
Mama
