My Second Pregnancy: 16 Weeks

Hello, bump! Everything seems to have gotten bigger this week- belly, boobs, butt… but my weight has still managed to stay the same. That can only mean one thing. Muscle atrophy. Wah wah wah wah. I can’t complain too much, though, because at this point in my last pregnancy I was already up about 10lbs. I know I’m eating enough food (overindulging if anything) and I am (for the most part) sticking with my workouts, so I’m not too concerned with the lack of weight gain, for now. I’m not particularly happy about it, though. I always think it’s weird/creepy when thin/normal girls don’t gain enough weight during pregnancy. Everybody is different, though, I guess. And every pregnancy is different, that’s for sure. Some mild heartburn finally arrived yesterday. I had it early on with Eva (starting at about 8 weeks) and it got so bad that it kept me up at night. Hopefully the fact that it has started much later this time is a good sign. Other than that, I’ve been feeling pretty fatigued again this week but it may just be that my body is still recovering from last week’s illness. (I was better by Sunday/Monday, in case you’re wondering). My next doctor’s appointment is next week so hopefully I’ll have a more interesting update then!

  1. Girl, your boobs are out of control! My daughter is 11 months and Im back to my pre-pregnancy bras…such a sad day! I’m dying for some mango too. We just moved from SoCal to Ft. Worth and am mourning the loss of almost year-round, local, availability!

  2. You look awesome!! Especially for it to be the second time around! I remember when I first was pregnant I was happy when I didn’t really gain weight but you are so right, it’s totally muscle atrophy — I literally gave birth and had NO muscles left over. Still working on it a year later. But you work out so I’m sure you will be fine! Good luck with the heart burn.

  3. I am following your exciting journey, at the same milestones in pregnancy 😉 My “bump” has been leaving me wondering if there is anything in there, but watching your progress is making me feel better because you are carrying so similarly and you’ve been through this before. I would love to know more about what you are doing for exercise. This is my first and having been so active my whole life I am struggling a bit to find the motivation. Good luck with everything! I will continue to enjoy your posts!

  4. Congrats. You’ve had your baby by now, but I love the detailed progress posts. Such a great way to journal your memories. I’ve read some week by week books and looked up blogs because I love the baby bonding/developmental information. I just started reading a book I think blows all the others away, and great for every pregnancy, not just the first. It’s called “The Wonder Within You: celebrating your baby’s journey from conception to birth” by Carey Wickersham. It’s an awesome combination of week-to-week pregnancy information, what’s going on with the baby, “Did you know?” plus health advice about what to eat, cravings, nutrition, etc, BUT also with awesome 3D/4D pictures and videos you can link or QR with your phone to and see what your baby looks like at each week stage. Even better than the typical week-to-week books, and so personal! It’s got mom stories and even a journal/note section to write your personal memories and letters to your baby. The pregnancy information is as up-to-date as it gets and it’s such a great keepsake. I want to get one for everybody I know who is expecting! I highly recommend it!
